Old photos
The photos below were supplied by Adrian Funston in April 2021. Adrian is the son of the late Allan Funston. Allan was one of the founding members of the current Berwick Tennis Club in the late 1940’s and was President between 1948 and 1952 and again between 1955 and 1957 and was also honoured with a life membership of the club. Allan was also a committee member of the Berwick Cemtery Trust next to the courts and the cemetery rotunda was named in his honour in 2014.
Many of the photos have the old tennis club house and the cricket/footy ground in the background. The buildings/sheds behind the goalposts would have belonged to Burr Hill property and the residence can just be made out in background. Note the fence poles around the court which Adrian believes came from saplings cut at Gordon & Helen Fyfe’s property in Beaumont Rd.
The final picture was gifted to the club following the renovations at the Berwick Pub. It was taken in 1914 – over 110 years of tennis in Berwick.
